The Steyne Hotel

A campaign to promote Responsible Service of Alcohol aiming to improve public perception and stimulating interest in new events has been the major focus since McHugh Holdings Pty Limited purchased the historic Steyne Hotel eighteen months ago. Immediately opposite one of Sydney’s iconic beaches, hosting three function rooms and nine bars, including the “cannot be taken for granted” eponymous View Bar, the Steyne Hotel has every reason to appeal to the wider community.
Fostering a positive social environment, these are some of the recent initiatives in a continuous commitment the hotel is taking to facilitate Responsible Service of Alcohol:
- Enforcing the “no shots after 10.00 pm” rule
- Introducing a designated driver campaign
- Voluntary 2.00am lock out, meaning patrons cannot enter the premises from this time until closing
- Installation of breathalyzers
- &, as recently announced, a trial period banning the sale of alcopops
Jake Avakian, appointed Marketing & Promotions Manager three months ago, is generating new concepts in catering and entertainment for the hotel. The timing of Manly’s Food & Wine Festival, to be held 31 May & 1 June, could not have been better according to Jake. An expected 20,000 people from the local area and across Sydney are expected to attend. The hotel will have a stand advertising new facilities and events.
Leading up to the festival, a dinner featuring Two Furlongs wine from Mudgee is programmed for Thursday 29 May. A charismatic host paired with an Elvis impersonator will ensure this evening is a hoot.
So what else has Jake up his sleeve? Beyond barbecues, already a feature in the Beer Garden every Friday and Saturday nights, you can look forward to “Brazilian Nights”. After a very successful trial these will soon become a feature every Friday night in the upstairs bar. Let’s hope the local Brazilian backpacker population come along and share some of those dance moves!
